SmartCast Heroes

A gamified pediatric recovery lab — a smart cast designed to help children heal with courage.

In the news — and in the clinic.

DNK Istanbul Hospital has agreed to trial three SmartCast prototypes with their patients, and Farah will intern at the hospital next summer to continue the work on-site. The project has also been covered in the press and featured on Instagram.

The story

It started with a cast.

SmartCast Heroes began with a personal experience. Farah spent months in a cast and learned firsthand how isolating, boring, and quietly frightening recovery can feel — especially for a child. The idea was simple: what if the cast itself could become part of the healing, not just a thing you wait out?

The vision

Recover. Play. Grow.

SmartCast Heroes is a research project building a smart pediatric cast that turns recovery into something children can interact with — gentle gamification, courage-building, and quiet medical sensing all in one device. The goal isn't to replace medicine. It's to make the time inside a cast feel less like waiting and more like growing.

Medicine

Safe, comfortable, clinician-approved — the cast first, the smart layer second.

Robotics

Lightweight embedded electronics, designed for a child's body and a child's daily life.

Psychology

Built around how children actually feel about being hurt — courage, play, agency.
